A light-year is a unit of measurement that astronomers use to describe large distances in the universe. It represents the distance that light, which moves at an unimaginable speed of about 186,282 miles per second, can travel in one year. So, when we say that the Pillars of Creation are 6,500 to 7,000 light-years away, we’re talking about an incredibly vast distance.
